The Honorable Peter F. Boggia, J.S.C. (retired) is of counsel with the firm at McLaughlin & Nardi, LLC.  Judge Boggia specializes in all forms of alternative dispute resolution, particularly mediation and arbitration of civil cases.

Judge Boggia joins the firm after a long and distinguished career as a judge of the Superior Court of New Jersey, and before that on the bench of five municipal courts.  Before joining the bench he was an active and successful trial lawyer.

Judge Boggia served on the bench in the Superior Court for more than twenty years.  He primarily served in the Civil Division.  Judge Boggia served as a trial judge and as the acting presiding civil judge in the Bergen County Vicinage of the Superior Court.  He presided over complex trials, including product liability, class actions, medical malpractice and serious personal injury litigation.  He also established the first program for the pre-trial mediation of civil cases in Bergen County.

Prior to joining the Superior Court bench, Judge Boggia sat concurrently as a judge in the Bergen County Municipal Courts of Bogota, Maywood, Little Ferry, Leonia and Fairview.

Before being appointed to the bench, Judge Boggia had a distinguished career as a trial lawyer.  Judge Boggia served as house counsel for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company, and in that position tried hundreds of cases to verdict.  He was certified as a Certified Civil Trial Attorney by the Supreme Court of New Jersey, which requires demonstrating high standards of experience, knowledge, education and skill in all phases of civil litigation from pleadings, through discovery and trial.  Only a small percentage of New Jersey attorneys ever earn this certification.

Judge Boggia began his career as an attorney and public servant as an assistant prosecutor in the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office.  Before that, he served as a law clerk for the Honorable Arthur J. O’Dea, J.S.C.

In addition to his service as a judge and prosecutor, Judge Boggia has given back to the community and the legal profession and many ways, particularly in teaching law students, practicing attorneys and other judges in many aspects of the law.  For instance, Judge Boggia served as a faculty member of the New Jersey Judicial College and the National Judicial College.   He served as an adjunct professor at Rutgers University Law School, and as an Instructor at Seton Hall University Law School and Widener Law School. Judge Boggia served as a Master of the Inns of Court, Arthur T. Vanderbilt Chapter, instructing young lawyers in trial skills, settlement techniques and ethical responsibilities. Judge Boggia has served as a lecturer for the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) and New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJ ICLE) on a wide variety of legal issues and subjects.

Judge Boggia graduated from Saint Peter’s University in Jersey City, New Jersey, and Villanova University School of Law in Pennsylvania where he was a Schepp Scholar.

Judge Boggia is a member of New Jersey State Bar Association and the Bergen County Bar Association.   He is a charter member of the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals (NADN), New Jersey chapter.
